Offering a lighter-weight alternative to our signature Ultra Heavy Flannel (UHF) shirts, these 9oz flannels provide classic Iron Heart styling in a cooler, more breathable option for the warmer months.
Due to a limited number of shuttle looms capable of weaving our selvedge flannel fabric, the selection of colours and patterns we can offer has previously been restricted each season. To expand the range, this 9oz unbrushed flannel is instead woven on a vintage Rapier loom. This allows us to create a fabric that is almost indistinguishable in feel and appearance from our shuttle-woven flannel — the only difference being the absence of selvedge edging, a feature inherent to shuttle-loom weaving.
Shown here in a classic blue plaid, the yarns of this fabric are dyed using a process we call “colour-true fade” dyeing. This is a reactive dyeing method that achieves a rich, saturated hue which — unlike conventional reactive dyeing — allows the fabric to mellow and fade over time. However, in contrast to made-to-fade sulphur-dyed fabrics, which often shift in tone as they age (for example, sulphur-dyed greens can develop a prominent yellow cast), this process preserves the original hue, ensuring an even fade that lightens in intensity without any unwanted colour drift.
Beyond the fabric, this model bears all the hallmarks of our work shirt cut — featuring open chest pockets with a pen holder, four-hole button fastenings, and finished with tonal stitching and orange chainstitch runoff at the hem for a subtle splash of contrast.
