Anyone here play video games?

In case you were wondering, Star Wars Squadrons is really great. The graphics are amazing and the controls are fantastic. They did a great job with how the ships control in zero G and you get to play as the Empire or the Rebels and can (somewhat) customize your character and ship. Also there is VR on Playstation and PC.
I haven't purchased a Star Wars game since KOTOR 2 so this is pretty monumental to have such a good single-player Star Wars game. It doesn't appear to be full of microtransactions and other garbage.i highly recommend it.

Nice. Have fun! I am am playing on Xbox. I got this version so I can upgrade to Series X when that comes out.
-
It's going to very difficult waiting another year for this. I am tempted to go for the early access preview. But I think it will be more rewarding to wait for the full game. Hopefully they do an Xbox Series X version, since my PC is rapidly becoming outdated.

I'm not too onto basketball. But this makes me very excited for the new consoles and PC video cards. CG is indiscernible form reality now, amd video games are catching up.

Geek Out!
Incredible what Consumer hardware can do in realtime now….
It was only around thirty years ago that affordable hardware could spin only a handful of polygons on screen at a time...
Anyone have a Commadore Amiga?
-
@organisys holy f*ck that is mad! I did not really believe the hype about ray tracing originally but as games catch up it sure looks impressive. Interested to see how the new consoles fair on average against PC
-
I think you will see roughly level pegging for a while, even if some of the PC hardware on paper is superior, partly for commercial reasons.
As time goes on (and the console hardware is effectively frozen in time, and PC not) the PC side will improve, (but this will of course cost the PC owner in upgrades), having said that Games Houses will of course learn how to squeeze more from the constraints of the consoles.
Arguably Photorealistic Realtime Raytracing on commodity hardware has been the holy-grail of the Industry for 30+ years.

I love squadrons! Reminds me of the good old days playing X-wing and Tie Fighter. It has very similar controls, which makes it easier for me at least, still a ton of buttons to memorize again.
Anyone on here play any Borderlands?
Are there any Pinball heads as well?
-
did anyone here managed to get a ps5 or series X?
@AdamJ you should see the comparison of Miles Morales:Spiderman in this video on the ps5, about 6:00 onwards
-
@louisbosco That looks crazy! I half-heartedly looked at getting one but as I am sure you're aware, there is zero stock for any. Besides I don't really game much anymore so saved myself four hundred quid
-
@AdamJ surely Fifa counts as gaming.. hahaha there's stock if you look in the right places but the prices are crazy. I'm sure they'll drop for Boxing Day sales in the next couple years. I'll take it they'll go into funds for a new UHF or something then
The details in Spiderman looks insane and real like. I can imagine being so immerse in it just walking about. which makes me wonder what the next-gen GTA or RDR would look like if they included those options with the graphics. I've somewhat decided that I'll get a pro this time so I'll be patient and wait a few more year for one.
@Seul hopefully more available units by then as well..
-
@thebeardoweirdo sorry man, I kind of post here infrequently. Didn't see this until now. I love pinball. I am kind of addicted to Pinball FX and the Captain America table.
@louisbosco I managed to get a Series X and I love it. Fortunately mine doesn't have any QC issues. I tried to get a photo of the cool green effect on the top of the box…
I am holding off on PS5 for now. There are several things about the console design that worry me. Plus I kind of hate how it looks… Plus they are pretty much impossible to find. I had one in my cart and decided to hold off for the mid-cycle refresh PS5PRO. Plus there are zero games I am interested in for it currently.
-
@Filthy me too. I've been buying the normal playstation for years, I thought I'd actually wait and get a pro version this year. I'm not sure how long this patience will last. recently been thinking of buying a ps5 and selling it when the pro eventually comes out, but there's no games currently to tempt me except maybe Spiderman: Miles Morales.
even though I'm not an xbox person, I'll have to admit that I really like the shape of the xbox series X. but I know I'll never get one because I really hate their controllers.
-
I actually prefer xbox controllers, and this one is extra nice. I really like the clicky D-pad and the RB and LB placement is perfect so you barely have to move your index finger to press it.
With the PS5 those frequencies they have the memory and GPU clocked to are unusually high. So it seems like it is is bound to run hot. Also the use of liquid metal on the CPU is slightly concerning because it contains gallium, and that dissolves both copper and aluminum. So over time the gallium become aerosolized by the fan and will leave traces of the gallium on the other components. And they are literally using a sponge to keep the liquid metal contained. They have plated the some of the aluminum components with nickel to help mitigate corrosion, I guess.
It would be fine for about 5 years or so. But after that I expect that there will be traces of dissolved copper throughout the internals. I have a gaming laptop that was overclocked and used LM and the entire laptop is full of dissolved copper. It is 8 years old.
There is also memory slotted on the back side of the motherboard that does not have a heat sink in contact with it and it gets to be close to 100 degrees Celsius which is also concerning.
The games I have seen look fantastic though. But Demon Souls isn't really my thing. I played the original and didn't care for it. I am hopeful that maybe they will have a revised console in a few years.

I get really annoyed with the placement of the analog sticks for the xbox, since I use them the most. the two side by side on the playstation suits me better. I can't say I've played much platform exclusive game to pick one over the other, except for the recent god of war so there's not much in it there for or against either platform.
I guess I haven't really looked in the materials used for the new playstation. those don't really bother me that much. can't say I've had much issues with consoles since the ps2 I had. the new size of the ps5 controller will be interesting for me though, given how they've changed the shape. other than that, I only hope they don't make the ps5 pro (or whatever it will be called) bigger than it already is.
