Do most of y’all do the double chain stitch hem on these heavies?
I would obviously prefer chain stitch on all of my IH denim, but I never guess the inseam correctly pre-soak and invariably ask my wife to hem them using a standard heavy duty machine.
I see I see. I’m hoping I guessed the length right haha. I read earlier in this thread that Giles and some others do a double chain stitch hem. Was kinda wondering if this thick of denim makes that method preferable. Does your wife send it through the machine an extra round?
She has a bit of a tough time pinning the fabric down on account of its density, but once she has it pinned, it goes through the machine well. And it's usually a single stitch. Actually, I don't think I have double stitch on any of my stuff.
Double stitch is great if you can get it but it's not necessary for the jeans' structural integrity

Perhaps the extra chain stitching becomes necessary when the denim is not cuffed? My single stitches have never failed, but my jeans are cuffed. In my case, the abrasion of the denim against the footwear causes wear to the fold of the cuff, while the stitches are undisturbed.

I got double chain stitch on my 2 recent pairs. Like Giles, I don’t cuff either. Kinda wanna see the 1080 though, G!

I had to order these through Self Edge. I had a credit from another purchase so it made more sense. I will, however, never buy IH from anywhere else again but from IHUK directly. Again, I am resisting the urge to badmouth anyone here, but IHUK they ain’t!!! Incidentally, SE does not offer a double chain stitch. Guess I can send them to Gosport if the hem comes unraveled since I don’t cuff either.

Got the heavies in today!! Tried them on and think I got the fit spot on!! Gonna soak em tomorrow morning!
Im new to the chain stitch game. There is some thread coming loose it seams. Thought I’d run it past y’all to see if this is normal or not before I reach out to Self Edge. What ya think? -
Here the pre-soak fit pick. Think it’s about perfect. Some shrinkage after soaking should tighten up the length and top block a bit. Super happy with the sizing. Now to send them back to self edge to fix that chainstitch hem and get to the soaking, line drying, and most excitedly the pain!!!!
-
Looks like a good fit. Sorry about the hemming issue. They should be able to fix that up.
If I get the 1/2 inch shrinkage in the waist and 1/2-3/4 in the hem I think these will be perfection. Love the denim. Almost has the lightest amount of slub. The indigo color is smooth and beautiful. Super impressed.
Sucks about the chainstitch being messed up. Not sure why they would send them out like that. But they’re fixing it so I guess that’s all you can ask for. Just another opportunity to work on my patience…I need all the practice I can get.

That's what I call a perfect fit, @Mizmazzle !
Looking forward to see post soak pics.

Went with size 34. Usually size 32/33 in 501.
I tried 633 but not enough top block so it gave me plumbers crack.
The waste is comfortable but a little loose. Right now the jeans are staying up ok without a belt. Been wearing it for a week. They've been soaked and washed. My complaints would be it rides too low, and it's a little baggy. Somewhat diaper butt. But then again I hate jeans that are tight on my fat thighs, so that's what lead me to this cut.
I expect hemming will help the situation. Should I have sized down?

Sorry I just did.

They don't appear to be too loose. Seems like a good fit in your thighs and top block. Though you could have sized down, maybe.
How did they feel when you first put them on? It should feel snug if not slightly tight in the waist at first. Unless the thighs are the bottleneck, like in my case.
I think that a belt and a hem would make the whole fit better.
Also, can you hike them up more? This is a high rise fit so the waist line can go up a bit. Might help fill in the top block in the right areas. Belt will help keep it up.

The sagging fabric (or "diaper butt" as some call it) won't ever change - at least that has been my experience with multiple cuts and sizes. You have to learn to live with it I think it's due to the wide top block that IH has due to the placement of the rear pockets.
PS: Other than that, fit looks good, I'd hem.
