@simon626:
i think people like zippers because they hate buttons haha. Buttons take individual effort for each one, whereas the zipper is one motion.
That said, i never want to own jeans with zippers every again. I done have enough of it already. I'm sick an' tired of it.
ok, by this understanding or reason being one of the (probable)many reasons that someone would like zippers as opposed to buttons, does it not still take effort to unzip? i really do not feel that people have devolved to that level of laziness, but it still very much fascinates me.
OK, here is one logical reason and argument that someone can make for liking zippers, and its that with a zip fly, you dont need to unbottom the top button to pee; that you can zip and spray. but i still dont think this is a very big convenience. i dunno.
Thanks for chiming in Sizzzimon.

I never undo the top bottom.
Opening is equally easy on both. When the jeans are well worn in I can just rip the three buttons open in a half a second. Kind of a manly motion. LOL!
Closing, the zipper clearly wins. People who get the zizi caught in the zipper are just plain left-handed. That NEVER happened to me and I'm not gifted with extraordinary dexterity. If that happens to you, you shouldn't drive a car and stay away from knives.
Comfort. I find zippers more comfortable. Subjective, of course.
Style. Buttons are kinda cool and classic. So I guess buttons win.
Look. Zippers make for a slightly flatter front. This will give more relief if you know what I mean.
Repair. Military trousers were traditionally made only with buttons. When your zipper breaks you are SOL. When a single button breaks you can still close the others and it is also possible to replace a sewn button (not a riveted jeans button) in the field. Try that with a zipper.
Cost. Buttons are in principle cheaper to buy for the mfr. (I know there are super expensive buttons but we are talking in principle.) BUT zippers are cheaper to install. There is less labour and less material involved with a zipper. If a single person is making the closure of a pair of pants the cutting of the parts, button holes and button attaching will take probably two or three times as long as the zipper procedures.
Probably half of my jeans are zippers, half buttons.
I wasn't upset at all that I didn't get a 9634 with buttons anymore, for example.
Now, we don't have enough women on this forum (there are never enough women), but it would be interesting what they think of zipper versus buttons. They obviously don't have the "zipped in" risk. But what do they like better if they have to open a pair of jeans or if they are pressed against it? I have to my great dismay hurt women with buttons. So zippers are preferable in my eyes for this kind of close encounter.

@simon626:
my girls usually take their jeans off themselves.
That's not what I meant but if they do that you are on the right track.
Do you remember the scene in the Italian Job when the one guy got a stereo that would blow the clothes off any woman? Hilarious.
For a change, try to take their jeans off. Or date girls in skirts.
What I meant was do your girls prefer buttons or zip? In my experience they prefer zip. They don't have the strength or courage to pop the buttons and to undo each one, especially on jeans, takes too much time and could break their finger nails. So zip wins for the girls.

i prefer my girls in spring dresses with little to no under garments. Tooo awesome when your girlfriend goes on a date with you and whispers that to you hahaha
I honestly hate denim on a girl if i'm trying to get her out of it. Denim blocks out so much sensitivity, they really can't feel you through their jeans/ jean shorts. I much rather prefer 100% cotton if anything on a girl.
Simon, at that point you are most definitely on the right track. Keep up the good work!

Yes. That is correct.

I meant cotton as in regular cotton fabric, that has not been weaved into hard impenetrable denim haha.
C'mon! You can't penetrate 21oz IH denim? That's so lame. Shame on you!
Just pulling your leg, my friend!

I've been meaning to give Beats rep too...will do so now !

Why do you (the reader whom this applies to) prefer zippers? what makes them the cats meow and bees knees? please let me know, this is of great interest to me…
I just don't see the point of buttons anymore…zippers are more convenient...I don't care much either way, but given the choice...there is no advantage to buttons...

IMO
1. zippers look cheap
2. they can break
3. body parts can get…..hung up
4. getting caught with your fly down sucks too.
Plus, you ask the average person "what's the first brand and fit of jean you can think of?" 9 out of 10 people I bet will say Levi 501 and what do the 501's have.....button fly. They're classic, original, and what all jeans should have imho of course.
