Fury v Usyk, definitely looking forward to it but leave it up to boxing to give the fans something a few years too late

I've been watching some recaps of the fight and I'm now really angry that we didn't get to see a real fight. The Tyson i saw in the sparring videos is not the same one I saw on Friday. He was obviously pulling punches and seemed to be only making contact by accident. I get it, it's entertainment but I really still think he would have knocked Jake Paul out in 1 round if they had let him. Those sparring videos are brutal.

Makes me want to see the sparring videos.
I've been interested in this as a media event. It's got all sorts of interesting stuff going on: celebrity, competition vs scripted, nostalgia and futurity, gender and morality, and of course, capital and the circulation of lots of money. I'm sure some bored academic will write a book about it. -
It seems this fight was more WWE than WBC. I’m not a fighter though.

Yeah, you don't have to know anything about boxing to see that they were both pulling punches. It was obvious. Especially after watching how they sparred leading up to the fight. It could have been a very short fight but they had to go all the way in order to get their payouts so it was really just a spectacle. At least we didn't have to pay for it and the ladies' bout was legit.

I really don’t think it was rigged guys. Tyson looked sharp for the first minute and a half and Paul, being the coward he is, did not engage till round 3. Tyson took a decent hook at this time and rapidly declined… chewing on his gloves for the final 3 rounds and barely able to move was tough to watch. I do think at this point, Paul was pulling his punches knowing no one wanted to see a 60 year old iron mike KO’d

Not knowing is part of the spectacle

@Matt this is EXACTLY what I thought
