USA Mega Trip - July & August 2022

Well that kind of makes me Happy and Sad at the same time. Sad that I won’t get to see you tomorrow, but Happy I didn’t make the effort to see you in the city,as I’m finally back to 100% from a rough bought I had with it in May. Hope it’s a real mild case. You would have been 7 miles from my house.

Laaaaame! So sorry, dude. That's annoying as hell for y'all.
-
Great photos. Thanks. Sorry to hear about the Covid setback, and glad your feeling better.
-
Please compliment Kira on the wlndbreaker photo, I love it, and not only because I’m an IH fan.

Man, that sucks. Sorry, Alex! I'm glad to hear you're not feeling bad, though.
I can't help but ponder the practicalities of this. I mean, I assume you can't get on a plane to head home if you're positive, so what do you do? Just sit in a hotel until you test negative?
I’m not going home for a few weeks, so I’m just chilling at my in-laws keeping away from the
And waiting for the negative result. I feel 100% fine now, after losing my voice yesterday so just a waiting game -

Thank you! Will do

I had it for the last week or so. I just kept myself to myself. Something like 1 in 8 people have it in UK now, it's not a big deal any longer…..
I've yet to catch it myself. Almost feels like a game at this point – how long can I hold out -- but the numbers are rising quickly in Los Angeles county. Cases have gone up 33% over the last 14 days!
I never expected this thing to just go away. My hope is that it becomes a silly thing that we just live with. Glad to hear that it's not causing you or Alex much discomfort or inconvenience at this point!

Is that exposure alert just an iPhone thing? Is it something you have to give your phone permission to access? Just curious as I've never seen that before.

Also, sorry to hear about that bump in the road on the trip. Hope everyone feels well and doesn't get any bad symptoms.

Alex's posts sparked a conversation in my house about how this is done.
I was doing some reading and apparently this is something that iOS and Android phones do. I don't have all of the details, but it's something like this: the phones can sense other phones near them and log the fact that you were near this particular phone; if that phone's owner tests positive a few days in the future, the COVID exposure detection system on the phones will alert you that you were near this person who has now tested positive and that you might be infected.
Apple and Google created an API that is designed to allow iPhones and Android smartphones to interface with one another for contact tracing purposes, so if and when you happen to be nearby someone who is later diagnosed with COVID-19, you can get a notification and take the appropriate steps to self isolate and get medical help if necessary.

What I don't understand is how the phone knows that that person is positive. It makes sense if they test positive at a doctor's office as I'm assuming that physicians report COVID infections to the government which can feed it into a database that iOS and Android can query, but what if they test positive with an at-home test?

well I was just thinking about this the other day. you can, because most countries no longer require pre departure tests or on arrival tests any more. whether you should is a totally different question..

Oh boy, I didn't like flying to begin with! Didn't realize they stopped requiring a negative test. Do they scan foreheads still?
