Custom Xmas present from the lady giving me power

This picture sure ain't the belle of the ball, but I got an email for a sale JBC was having last week and couldn't resist trying this one. Natural process Burundi with notes of "Mixed Berry, Nerds Candy, Melon." It's definitely tart, gonna try Chemex tomorrow — need more Nerds.

That mug is a great gift @popvulture
Also love your black Comandante. I love my OG wooden MK3 but that black is beautiful!Let’s see how it goes with the New Year’s resolution of reading more books. Starting with Harari.
-
@weftyarn ah yeah the wood ones are so cool! I just got black basically because it was the cheapest . Plus I just want everything in black.
Those things are so badass, though — I just got mine recently and am still marveling at how well it works.
-
Oh yeah, there’s still a few examples of good German Engineering. This is definitely one of them
Have my Comandante for 4 years now as my daily driver and it’s still good as new
-
@weftyarn on that note, do you do anything special to clean yours? I just brush mine out on the bottom a little after each use, nothing fussy. Wondering if I should be doing anything more.
Re: the coffee I posted yesterday, tried a Chemex just now and I think I like it a little better. I think that also could be because I haven't dialed in my Kalitta Wave method at all. Funnily enough I came across a review of a bunch of Chemex techniques a few years ago, and the favorite (now also mine) was just steadily pouring all of the water in at once and letting it go through in one big infusion. For whatever reason it ends up being the smoothest / juiciest. So easy, but I'll be damned if it isn't the best I've found.
Still no Nerds today, lol. I think clearly one of those (common, really) instances where the taster got a little too creative

Nothing special really. Only about twice a year I open it up completely to take the burrs out and clean them with a brush. That’s it basically.

Recently learned about stroopwafels

I have been enjoying some nice roasted offerings from Reframe Roasters (Penang Island, Malaysia).
One of my work colleagues brings Reframe coffee with him to work.
I have been trying to find something suitable to bring with me from the U.K.
Settled on a nice all round Mexican bean roasted by Square Mile Roasters called Vocho Rojo.Square Mile Roasters were set up with help from James Hoffman of You Tube coffee review fame.

Have also been incredibly humbled this current offshore hitch. It is my last hitch in Dubai before heading back to work in Norway.
My coffee mentor and work colleague purchased a leaving gift for me so I can continue my coffee pursuits at work in Norway.
I am now the proud owner of Black Mirror Nano scales and the Kinu M47 hand grinder. Both quality items. The hand grinder is a lovely thing to use, super smooth bearings and very neat grind adjustment, practically step less.
-
Kinu? Thats a good friend!
-
@steelworker Completely agree, I am one lucky co-worker. It will be sad to leave this particular job and colleague. The coffee chat in the evenings at shift change have been memorable, makes the month away from home a bit easier.
I am looking forward to getting back to Norway. Their coffee is not the best but their work schedules are the best, more time at home away from work has to be good. At least now I have my portable coffee set up sorted with the scales, Kinu and Aeropress.

One of my favorite classic chocolatey beans.
And the best Franzbrötchen in town. You know they’re good when the paper bag looks like that
