This is the Obbi Good Label Story
-
Last year, 2019 was our 10th Year establishment, we thought we can have some good amount of archives to write a story… ;).
Let's start with the year 2011 - Our first leather workshop in Arab Street.
Some of them are young and handsome, and slim...
We want to show them in this forum because Ironheart played a very important role as a friend and partner throughout the years. Thank you.
Please check our 2012 highlights soon. -
The year is 2012, we carried with us some catalog, linesheets and leather samples and went to Berlin. Mainly to visit the 'then' famous Bread and Butter tradeshow. We wanted to learn more about the industry and most importantly, the people in it.
This was also the first time we visited Berlin, and subsequently 10 times more till date…
It is a city of vast culture and friendly people. We are grateful for all the great hospitality received throughout the years. And on this trip, Burg und Schild became our first European stockist.

It was also in 2012, we moved to a new venue. A pre-war conservation shophouse, along Kandahar Street, in the Malay cultural district of Singapore.
It wasn't as big as our first workshop, and we were on the second floor of a Persian carpet shop. We curated our new venue into a retail cum workshop space. Leather workshop and productions are set up on its mezzanine and the retail is below.
This is where Tuckshop & Sundry Supplies was born - a Obbi Good Label's retail shop with leather workshop.
And this is where @Giles and Ironheart started to play a very important part in Obbi Good Label's story. We arranged for a small 'Meet-the-people' session during our opening, with Giles and Paula as guests. Since then, we had numerous other events in bigger forms, more crowd but I can only remember this first time we met Giles and Paula. It is our best memory.
I would like to point out that while selecting the picture archives, I noticed that many of us changed. For example, from shorter hair to long hair, from young, slim build to middle-aged belly…
Only Paula @Madame Buttonfly , she maintains her youth. -

We have reached the year 2013.
Again, we visited Bread and Butter in Berlin. However, I recalled that tradeshows was not our only focus during the trip. From the picture archives, we were in Berlin, Hamburg and Gosport.
Was it the first Fish n Chips event at Gosport?
I dont even remember which hotel we stayed in Gosport for that trip.
But I do remember the beautiful weather, the idyllic port and the good people. -
There were many highlights in our story in 2013. Apart from the Europe travels, we moved to our 'Dream Workshop' along Bali Lane (same cluster within the Malay district in Singapore).
It was a 2-storey with mezzanine pre-war conservation shophouse. We occupied the whole unit and curated our workshop and retail into the one and only in Singapore that year.We were very proud of this set up and naturally, this new venue attracted some of the biggest crowd in our history. Other than our first shop, we have forged greater friendships in 2013. And we would like to think that, we have created a community instead of a plain retail shop.

Apart from Europe and USA, we ventured in China in 2013.
As Singaporean, we are fluent in English and Mandarin, so communication was not difficult. However, with Mandarin proficiency, it was not easy to make business right away. We spent a few years understanding the government policies, and the way to do business.
Fortunately, we had some true friends who helped us constantly.
Very soon, we were in the circle of the denim activists in China.
