Hifi, Lofi - Show us What you Listen With…...

it's without a doubt analogue wins hands down. digital give you the possibility of taking it with you wherever you go. whether you listen to a loseless or compressed format. with that said, the only times i'm plugged in is when i'm driving or catching a flight. i don't carry a music player with me if i head out to the shops or to a coffee shop.. and no i do not use my phone for music too..
Amps are great, but indeed kind of a hassle. Not sure how that would work with BT though.
nah it wouldn't. that would have to be wired for sure.

So do I, but when you fly as much as I do (I used to be on a plane 4-6 times a week when I was corporate), then a pair of headphones and some decent music or film is a Godsend.
When flying, some noise cancelling / dimming headphones make a huge difference on how rested one feels on the other side.
-
Same here, and you're right the difference is noteworthy. So much so that I'm seriously considering relegating my low end NC headphones to exclusive work duty and springing for a quality pair specifically for travel.
-
I bought these about 6 yrs ago and are a great pair of headphones. Bought them at Heathrow for a flight i was taking as i'd left my headphones at home.
-
Anyone tried one of these?
-
I use these two, depending on if I want on ear or in ear / need noise cancelling. Both are excellent:

Anyone tried one of these?
No, but you might be better off with a dedicated mp3 player. Won't be obsolete when you upgrade your phone.
-
the qc35 wireless are brilliant. you can't go wrong with those. my mate recommends the sony wh-1000xm3 too. i had a go with them. pretty astounding sounds quality with noise cancelling as well.

@organisys I completely agree, MP3 is a much better format in my opinion and the AK ripper is a great way to convert CD data.
Downloads are such a waste of money too. They have no resale value and it is not in Apple or any other provider's interest to do so.
Most of the cds I own that are more than 5 years old have resale values of between £20 and £700. I recently sold my black metal collection alone for £1800.

Well to be fair, I just use an iPhone for music on the go. But at home it’s either CD, Vinyl or a big NAS Drive of CDs converted to FLAC files which I play back on Various Sonos players.
My HiFi gear (apart from the Sonos) is around 30 years old and comprises Wharfdale speakers, Rotel amp. Philips CD player, and a Technics SL1200 (ok so that’s not hifi!).
One of the Sonos is connected to the amp and speakers. Modest setup but still sounds OK.
-
'a Technics SL1200 (ok so that’s not hifi!)'
@organisys Technics SL 1200 are so synonymous with DJing that they often get overlooked as to how good they can sound with the right stylus. The are a classic.
-
^^^Agreed^^^.
Just check the net for 1200/1210 upgrade and there's a wealth of info. I've sold a few pairs over the years and now wished i'd kept one.
-
Well, I won't be doing any 'upgrades', reconditioning yes, it could do with a bit of that. It's probably still got beer and cigarette ash in it from various parties…. ::)
When my kids are a bit older, I might sort it, or switch to a Rega or similar.

I finally managed to take a Pic of my Setup:
Headphone Amp: Schiitt Audio Jotunheim
DAC: Audioquest Dragonfly Red (To be changed to Schiit Bifrost)

Phono Pre: Musicial Fidelity V90
Phono Deck: Technics 1210 MK2 (from 1989 or something like that)
Headphones: Beyerdynamic DT1770 (+ a Audeze soon)Yes that is a shite load of money just for listening to some Music over Headphones but why stop at Jeans and Shirts

Seems to me price/performance-wise you're in pretty good shape!

Yes, definetly, I don´t buy into the super Highend Stuff, yes the Audeze LCD-3 for 1000€ Sounds better/different then my DT 1770 for 600€ but the LCD-4 does not sound 4 times better then the LCD-3 at least not for my Club Soundsystem beaten ears. I listend to the LCD-4 attached to an Sennheiser HDVD800 (4000€ Cans + 3000€ Amp) and I neither saw Jesus apperaing nor Lemmi rise from the dead.
I keep the HiFi rabbithole closed, my Audio Dealer has Speakers on display that cost as much as a solid Family Home
