IHSH-331-BLK - 12oz Moleskin CPO Shirt - Black
-
going back and forth between this and the 10oz version from SE. I generally prefer heavier weight, but have never owned any moleskin. Does anyone wear these as just a shirt or always best as an over layer?

Jett AKA Man In Black! I'd love to see those pics too!

I always wanted it in Black and had the original one in Blue which I eventually sold. I don’t think the original one or the one that SE is selling had the western yoke upfront,which I really like about this one. The 10oz was pretty warm. I’m expecting to wear this as a shirt with a light t-shirt or Henley underneath. Stay tuned!

@Jett129 it's kind of inevitable that something will be imperfect with this sort of upgrade (downgrade, size wise). We can either match the backs to the normal sized backs on black snaps and there will be a mark that will fade over time (its just a pressure mark) or we can add larger backs that contrast with the black front of the snap. Either way, the team will be in touch tomorrow to discuss options before doing anything

I feel like I still haven’t seen an answer if this (and the type III) is in fact a heavier moleskin that SE. Alex can you please illuminate us?

I recently bought the 10oz from SE and it feels pretty substantial. Don't know how much a difference the 2oz will make, but the 331 is definitely gonna feel even heftier. I intended to buy mine to wear as a shacket, but even after sizing up to a large (I'm usually an IH medium), it fits small and is perfect as a shirt for me. I don't mind though because it probably works better as a shirt instead of a jacket if you live somewhere that gets really cold, which I do. I guess I'd characterize it as a heavy shirt or a medium weight jacket that is good for cold nights but not suitable for real winter weather. Some other things to consider are the $95 USD difference in price and if you prefer the western yokes or not. You can't go wrong either way.
Hope what I wrote helps and makes sense. My edibles kicked in while writing this.

@Alex
Why is this awesome shirt so much more expensive , compared to a UHF ? -
Ah ok, thank you Alex.

I got a chance to try this on yesterday at Berkeley Supply. I was expecting more of a brushed texture to this, but it is not. I actually like it that way since I kind of prefer a harder surface feel! Was super tempted to pick it up, but held off. The weight did feel more like a heavy shirt than a jacket to me. Its gets pretty hot here in Colorado in the summer so I think it could be used as a jacket in that time (though I still try to wear my 526PJ :D). I am thinking it might be a bigger difference on whether you like the western yokes or not.
Man, first they hit me with all the green goodness and now they are getting me with the black!

Beautiful. I wish the IHSH-218 - "The Johnny Cash III" was also completely blacked-out, rather than the white selvedge tickers. Especially at the hem gusset; a bit immature looking rather than this CPO's refinement.

That is a function of the design. The westerns are built the same way regardless of material. CPO’s are made in such a way that the selvedge ID wouldn’t show, even if there was one (which there wouldn’t be in this case).

My snap swap decision wasn't based on the selvedge ID,but for me,as much as I loved the brass snaps on the Olive 331,they didn't work for me on the black version. When they first made the Over dyed 178 the snaps ended up looking kind of silvery/pewtery which I would've loved on this shirt. Sometimes wish there was a different,other than brass,material,option for that iconic IH snap.
