16oz Slubby Denim
-
Since there have been many more slub IH jeans out in the world since the original 666's, are there any more reports of stretch measurements since post 428 back in Oct 21? It seems to be some disagreement over more or less stretch compared to the 21oz. fabric. It does seem 1" is a reasonable estimate so far. Fingers crossed I ordered the right tag / actual waist.
I’ve worn 2 different pairs of these so far. I got 2” of stretch on the sample 777 pair with no back patch. And about 1.3” on the Pronto Collabs with the back patch that’s sewn in. The 16oz Slubs have some stretch in them for sure. Personally I think they stretch more than the 21oz in the waist, but I’ve seen other who’ve gotten 2” of stretch in the 21oz. Hope this helps.

That is helpful, thanks. My preferred final waist is somewhere around 35.5-36 and my options were actual waist measurements of 34.2 and 34.9 so I went with the larger of the two (tag 35). I wanted the smaller thighs of the skinnier waisted tag 34s but was really concerned they'd never really be comfortable needing at least ~1.5" stretch in the waist. I guess we'll see how they fit in a couple of days.

Adding a data point for everyone along with a question.
The 35s were too big for me so I needed to return for the 34s.
The 34.2" measurement could gently be pulled taut to 35". After maybe just 15-30 min of wear around the house the waist now measures about 35.5 and is starting to almost feel like they're too big again, but really only in the hips and seat have extra material I could do without. These are much more willing to stretch than I was expecting. It doesn't seem unreasonable, at least on this pair, that a full inch of stretch in the FLAT measurement would be possible without too much struggle. I could almost elastically stretch them that much when measuring. In other words, up to 2" in waist circumference might happen without any real effort.Having said this, I'm now a little worried they'll keep going, should I have done the 33s?

@pechelman they're going to stretch where you stretch on them. That said, I can't imagine you getting more than 2" of stretch in the waist – that's the most I've ever gotten out of IH denim -- but this is new fabric so I can't say for sure.
If you're concerned about them stretching too much, how about wearing a belt? The pair that I'm currently wearing, an 888-XHS, is perfect in the thigh but fit the waist right out of the bag (the thigh is my bottleneck). To prevent the waist from stretching too much while I'm moving about, I always wear them with a belt.
I hope that helps. We're here to help you work out your denim sizing obsessions

It looks like the cut may not be the best one for you. I’m sorry if I missed it but what are they? Do you wear other cuts or have you tried others? The hips do look big but that would relax some with wear. The waist looks snug so I don’t know if I’d try to risk going smaller but that will stretch from where you are now. Going bigger would exacerbate the hip issue.
-
@pechelman I 100% agree with @Matt. I don't think that cut is going to work for you and I can't tell what cut it is. You may want to go with one of the slimmer cuts.

these are the 888s-slb's
Thanks for the honest advice. I guess it wasnt in my head other than I really wanted these to work. Shoot. Unfortunately it may just meant not to be with pretty much any IH bottom then. I've tried a few cuts and the only reason I took the chance on these was because the stock measurements have unusually low rises and thighs compared to the other 888's. The problem with the slimmer cuts is that the rise is simply too low and doesnt have enough room through the middle/crotch/groin and makes it very uncomfortable, especially when sitting.
The NO-LOTS i tried had this problem in the rise and were too trim in the thigh. The only real luck ive had is a well worn pair of 634S-21's in a tag 33 that have stretched to nearly 36, but I also wish the rise was ~.5-1.0" greater total between front + rear for the reason noted above. Also I prefer a slightly more tapered leg from the knee down.
Guess I should reach out, hopefully these are still in a returnable condition.

Roll that cuff up a bit more for us. The length could be affecting how the thighs are sitting in your photos. Let us see how you’d wear them out in the wild with shoes before making a final decision.
The thighs sit the same way when the cuffs are higher because they're being pushed OUT by the extra material in the seat rather than up by the legs.
My intent was to get them hemmed this weekend, but I was having doubts when I tried them on again last night. My preference is not cuffing jeans. Always felt it made my short legs look shorter.

Ok. Really hard to say then. If you aren’t feeling it now then your first impression may be the right one for you. The 634 is probably what you want just based on what you’ve shared so far. You lose the taper but you’d lose that anyway by getting them hemmed to wear with no cuff.
-
@pechelman Could you put on your 34 ONI 902ZR jeans and do the same pictures as your previous post? Someone may be able to find a fit similar IH jean based upon your preference for fit based on the Oni’s that you like.
Long shot but….

Thanks, @Matt. Again, appreciate the insight, help, and advice. While I can't really take an "in-the-wild" shot at the moment due to the weather outside and wanting to keep these clean, I did have my wife take a few more photos with cuffs that are off the ground and feet.

That actually is better in my opinion. I think they could work for you after you have a chance to break them in some. A wash or soak could also help. You could wear them for a bit and sell them on the forum later if you never come around to them. Of course if they’re still returnable then you could just start over. It seems like you just need less room through the thigh. Finding your perfect fit can be hard. I’ve gone through quite a few different pairs of 666 then 777 and now 888 which I’m currently favoring. Trial and error if you have the means. Also keep in mind that moving from one model to another requires an adjustment period to get used to a different fit. They could feel “off” at first after switching but sometimes you just need to get used to the differences.

If you think we can sell them as new, we'll take them back. So, ask yourself this, if you received them as a new pair of jeans would you be happy or pissed off with us? If you would be pissed off, then the answer is no. We can't risk being seen as unethical… And honestly, if you've started to stretch the waist out, they don't sound new.....

Last one I can do for today, the photographer and I are getting antsy to start our day.
The 902's are a lot harder to get good photos, so I cranked up exposure and whatnot. These are definitely on the relaxed side of what I want, but are extremely comfortable and dont pull anywhere when I move, sit, squat, etc. I would rather it be a little looser than constantly have to adjust my pants. I probably should have removed things from my pockets and the belt, but oh well, gives a realistic view. Actual measurements (as best as I can recollect) after ~60 wears, no washes, unsoaked, straight from the store otherwise, are as follows;Waist: 36"
Thigh: 13.25
F.Rise: 12.0
R.Rise: 16.5
Knee: 9.5
Hem: 8.5 -

Thanks, Giles. What shocked me is how fast this changed from ~15-30 mins of wear around the house. I could guess that if these were in my local denim store that they'd see this much stretch from a few customers trying them on and still be sold as new. Certainly these arent as "crisp"? as when I opened them, but they arent exactly sweat-pant broken in either. I'm tyring to be as transparent as possible here as well, so not trying to pull anything on anyone.

Send a mail to @Graham at shop@ironheart.co.uk…..
But the simple test is. Would you be happy to receive these as new jeans if they dropped through your door from an online store?
