IH-555S-SLB - 16oz Slubby Selvedge Denim Super Slim Cut Jeans - Indigo
-
My IH-555S-SLB arrived yesterday and damn. The denim has a beautiful amount of character and its 16oz weight plays a nice trick of feeling substantial in the hand and light on the body. These are also my first 555 and oddly enough one of design features I appreciate the most so far is that the front pockets are way more accessible and functional than they are on the other cuts I have. Unfortunately the inseam was hemmed a little long so I have more stacking than I ideally like but I'm still digging the cut and loving the denim. I wasn't planning on it but I think I may just overindulge and get the 888-SLB as well.

these are my next planned purchase. i own the 888 21 oz, 777 duck, and the 555 SLB. love all of those fits, but the 555 might be my favorite.

I am so not certain between getting this pair of SLBs in the 555 or 666. Reading earlier posts comparing the two, I would've expected the the 555s to be slimmer in the thighs however, the measurements really seem to show the thighs wider in the 555s compared to the 666s.
I owned, for a short time, the 555 SBG in a 36 and those were pretty tight for me and they cut off circulation in my thighs, lol, so I decided to get rid of them. I would prefer a slim fit appearance so I'm not thinking to order the next size up, 38, and get over the fact that size 36 just isn't my thing. Guess vanity sizing in other denim has thrown me off.
I also own the 21 oz overdyed in a size 36 and those fit fairly well except the waist is tight were I can't do the top button… A 38 in these jeans would be too baggy everywhere else except in the waist.
Any suggestions?

I feel like i tried the 888 in a 14oz in a size 36 a while back and really hated the feeling of having it sit on my stomach. Wasn't comfortable…

Hi @BrianA,
I have a fraction of a fraction of the experience that most in this forum have with IH so I don't have any suggestions for you, but I do have a pair of the 555S-SLB and can say that the denim seems to have more stretch in it than a lot of the other IH denim fabrics that I've tried, excluding the Shinayaka of course, which is an excellent denim fwiw. I got these 555S-SLB in tag size 34, and after a few days of wear, the waist opened up by 2", the hips opened up by 1", the back rise opened up 0.4", and the thighs opened up 0.4". Again, that was only after a few days. The only other IH denim that I've tried that had greater deltas was a pair of the 17oz natural indigo. Can't say if that much additional space in the tag size 36 dimensions would help them work for you but you could also ask the IH staff to check their 36s and see if they have a pair with a relatively wide thigh measurement to start with. Oh also, my 555S-SLB pair started out with wider thighs than both of my 666 cuts.
Don't know if any of that is helpful but hope you find something that works either way.

@BrianA i seem to have this problem too.
I wanted a slimmer thigh too so i almost bought a 555. Told myself to wait for the 666 to be release and then decide. I finally go with the 666 size 38, which is my usual size as my other 2 666s. But the thing with the SLB is that it is so soft and the thigh is even roomy than my 14oz 666 and that is not what i wanted. What i can suggest for you is to tell them to check if they have a pair starting with a 37". My starting waist measurement for the 666-SLB is 38.1. I feel like i can go with a "Bigger 36" measurements. Hope this helps.

Question. If i get a 35 and my waist is a 35 will the the waist stretch? I wouldn't want them to. I'd be buying the 35 so the thighs fit well.

From the product page: "The waist will stretch out approximately one inch with wear"
So yes the waist will stretch out approximately one inch with wear.

BUT. Measuring your waist size is a very inaccurate way of measuring what tag-size you will need. You need to do measure a pair that currently fit you well, the way we articulate on each product page…
Yes all of my current jeans that fit measure approx 35 so I would be getting the exact size without stretching.

Then you'll need a waist that measures around 34" if you want to end up at 35".

Ok thanks. Trying to figure out what size/ lot might work for me. First timer. Leaning towards the 888.

Not easy, I remember myself.
If you have athletic thighs then then the 555 may not work. The taper from thigh to knee is pretty wicked, and the waist/thigh ratio is big (ie. the waist measures big but the thigh measures small).
If you want a smaller hem then the 777 doable, because it has a bigger knee measurement, so a little more room in the thigh.
The 888 is a bigger version of the 777 but with a different top block. Comfy relaxed fit but the taper and top block make it sharp still. You'd need a w34 in those.
The 634 and 666 are straight cuts, mixing tradition with a sharp modern edge. The 666 is slimmer with a trim top block.

@jmceachern maybe send ihuk a message during regular business hours using the chat and see if they can find you a pair with a smaller waist. I use this to chat with them all the time!
