IHM-27-OLV - Sateen M-65 Field Jacket - Olive

I'm in a dilemma guys, I have a similar jacket from Old Navy, which is also a military style jacket, Its a Large that measures 24.5 pit to pit which fits me fine. a little lose but with layering it will fit better, the XL for this jacket is the same measurement but I notice the sleeves would be too long. Even the Large has a pretty long sleeve. What should I do? lol. I could go with the Large I guess but i could probably only wear it with a light henley underneath, nothing too thick. Id love to be able to get the large, I have lost 40 pounds over quarantine and plan to lose another 18 pounds by end of the year, What would you guys suggest? The Large measures 47.4 if the measurements are correct and the XL is 49. about 1.5 inch difference. I think the sleeves on that XL will be too long for me as i'm not very tall I'm only 5'9
Daft question. How long are your arms?
Im only 5’9” and the sleeves on my version of this (model from two years ago I think) are fine.
I take the sage IH advice and measure the arms of an existing garment that you own/like and take that into consideration.
On the basis that you are going to use this as a winter garment, I would probably go with the XL if intending to layer. I have sized down on m65s before but have always found myself going for the larger ones I own due to extra room for movement/ability to later. Also, you will need to take the lining into consideration re the P2P measurements.
Also, if you are based in the UK you could always possibly go to Gosport and try on.
On a side note, IH version is the best iteration of the M65 I have owned/handled and imo better than Buzz/RMc/all the Maharishi ones I have owned.

I figured it out!
I own the Corduroy Modified Type III Jacket - Khaki
IHJ-69-KHA in size XXXL which comparing them to the M65 in size Large its damn near identical. And since my weight loss the jacket is now more loose on me so even layering it with the Ultra Heavy Flannel Crazy Check Work Shirt Navy that I own its still decent room, the arm length is the same which still fits me a little long due to my short arms but its not a huge deal. The Large is definitely my size for this oneMy arms are around 26inches if you were wondering. My chest now measures 44inches
I'm probably going to cop that black one too! Its too tempting not to get both lol

@jothishan:
Guys, so what is the conclusion! Is this Jacket suitable for western winter? With the IHSH- Wabash shirt underneath, can one withstand the cold temperatures between 1 and 5 °C? I know this is a subjective question, but just thought someone who already owns this would be able to share their experience!
I own a denim version of this Jacket and wear it with my wabash CPO shirt all the time in 1-2 degrees C. I't a wonderful outer layer. I also wear it with my IH primaloft Shirt Jac CPO during - temps.

Just received mine yesterday.
What shall I say? Love it - beautiful fabric and well made! One thing I'm a bit concerned about is: SHRINKAGE…
As often I was in the middle of 2 sizes. I choose the smaller one which so far seems to be the right decision concerning the length of the arms as they definitely shouldn't be any longer.
But what if it shrinks like denim??
As far as I have seen, there is no information about sanforization or prewashing.
So, is anyone there who has experience if or how this fabric may shrink? If there might be reasonable shrinkage, then maybe I have to rethink my sizing…
I only will wash it at the maximum temperature that is indicated: max 40 degrees C.I also asked the IH staff. Graham answered to me today: "[i]There should be no noticeable shrinkage if handled correctly (low temperature, low spin)".
But if there is any experience out there in the community, I would also appreciate to hear that.
Thanks guys!

Well, I bit the bullet and ordered both black and olive colors! I went with size Large since I have a khaki jacket from IH in XXXL that has same measurements as the Large and it fits me well, even with layering Its still fits fine. Can't wait to get them. I loved both black and olive

@Richardcard82 that's the attitude! Excellent work Let us know how the fit is.

Lol, yeah I guess I am nuts. I became very bored and depressed during quarantine, I if were to tell you how much I've spent on online shopping you'd have a heart attack, I've been fortunate to have a good online business that lets me spoil myself like this, So I figured why not? I basically have an entire new wardrobe, I also lost over 40 pounds since December so I needed new clothes to go with my new shape lol. I've spent atleast $3,000 on Ironheart alone lol, so that gives you an idea. I got 3 pairs of their pants a few months back but unfortunately one was too tight so I had to sell it, I have 2 of their jackets, well 4 now with these and 3 of their flannels. I've also been buying from Taylor Stitch which have great shirts and sweaters and I'm a huge fan of Kato Brand jeans, very comfortable Japanese jeans. I've been selling new jeans I bought when I first started shopping, i've been selling them on poshmark since they no longer fit me and I never even wore them! Oh well lol

Retail therapy is real. Combine that with FoMo (fear of missing out) that comes with Iron Heart product runs and you've got a serious problem.
I spent a ton of money building my garage gym during quarantine since all of the gyms have closed down. Almost didn't buy this but I'm very happy that I did. Hopefully post a little review and picture tomorrow.

Yeah the FoMo is real, I figure once they sell out they won't come back for a long time lol, so I guess I got pulled in the by the fear of losing out on them. Retail therapy is helpful especially when you can splurge on whatever you want, I also made my patio into a small home gym, financed a nordicktrack for cardio and a small home gym I got from Marcy, its something to keep me going, although gyms are finally opening I still don't want to go. I'm in California,

One thing I'm a bit concerned about is: SHRINKAGE…
Wash on 40C and you will be fine. It isn't denim. The lining and stitch construction will all retard shrinkage, even if it isn't sanforised (which it probably is). If shrinkage was an issue it would be stated on the webshop page.
Congrats on a great jacket.

I wouldn't say that I can splurge on whatever I want, but I would say that I've been blessed enough to contribute my fair share to fund Giles' fishing trips over the years
Where abouts are you in California? I'm in Orange County (about 30 miles SE of LA).

lol yeah well I can't splurge on WHATEVER I want but close enough, I also ended up financing a new PC gaming rig from Digital Storm, I ordered the upcoming 3090 GPU, I won't get it for another month or so haha. I'm assuming Giles is the owner? lol. Nice I'm in Temecula, I use to live in Brea when I was a kid, went to high school there, I'm 38 now so it was a lifetime ago. I guess I just paid for Giles fishing trip this coming weekend lol

Wow, wow, wow! What a beast of a jacket!
I absolutely love this thing. As I mentioned before, I missed out on the first run and regretted it as soon as it sold out. Money was a bit tighter than usual this year on account of having to set up a home office and a home gym because of the pandemic but I told myself that I'd regret it again if I didn't pick it up this round. So glad that I did!
One of the first things that stood out was how solid the collar is. I have and love the IHM-20 (https://www.ironheartamerica.com/extinct/ihm-20.html) – I'm just a massive sucker for pockets! While the IHM-20 is also an amazing piece that you won't regret picking up, the collar tends to settle pretty quickly. I mean, I can put the collar up but within 5 minutes or so, it'll kinda fold down on its own. Not the case with the IHM-27! I think I could build a bookshelf on this thing!
Anyhow, here's some pics. I did want to point out that someone earlier on the thread said something about a khaki inner lining, but it's actually just a lighter green. I'm including pics with a white index card so that you can get a feel for the true color.
If you can swing it, don't miss out on this one!

Mine should be here on Monday. I have the IHM-26 in duck canvas but just couldn't resist the classic green.

Okay, I sprang for the thing, in olive green. But there’s a problem.
First the positives. This is beautiful jacket, wonderful sateen, and seems well-constructed. Less of a repro of an M-65 and more of a “take” on the original. Really nice to look at and handle. The dual zipper is an interesting touch, even though they got the zipper backwards.
When I was considering getting this, I was drawn to the longer arm length and narrower shoulder seam width. Done right, I think this gives a nice, fitted appearance. But I agonized over just how narrow the Large is in the shoulders at 18.7 inches. Every other measurement seemed right in the ballpark. I’m 5’10” and 190 lbs, fairly muscular in the shoulders and chest, slightly longer arms than average.
So the jacket arrived Thursday. And boy, it fits trim. The shoulder epaulet seam is only 5 and 3/4 inches. Fine. I throw it on. Looks great. Then I zip it up..
You know, the models in the pics aren’t really doing anything. Just standing there looking cool. And it looks great if I just stand still. But dang it’s a narrow fit across the shoulders. The armholes are fairly high, and the sleeves are considerably narrower than an actual M-65. Also, the shoulder pleats are not as deep as an M-65. So, fully zipped up it’s a pretty confining fit in the shoulders for me, if I reach up or forward.
I’d size up I guess, but the 28” arms of an XL would be too much. For the money, I’d rather not have to go in immediately thinking it needs to be altered or shrunk.
So, I could keep it and not wear it zipped up, and hope the material relaxes a bit over time. Or return it for an XL. Or call it quits.Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

How long are the sleeves for you right now? It sounds like you might be happier if you sized up. But if the sleeves already end half way down your hands, that might not work.
I don't plan on wearing this zipped up often. Maybe if I'm stuck out in the rain. I did want it to fit over a UHF and still be able to zip it up. Am happy to say that I can do that. The arm holes do feel a bit snug when I do that, though.
This is the problem that you face when you put on muscle. I'm 5'10", about 170 with a muscular build and find myself always straddling that medium and large line. The sleeves are too long if I go large, the chest is too tight if I go medium.

Well gents I got both of my jackets today! in olive and in black and they fit great! I wasn't aware you could adjust the cuff with the Velcro so that helps with the long sleeve issue. Feels amazing! Here's a few pictures in both colors! I put on the 9oz Selvedge Flannel Check Western Shirt – Red/Dark Indigo underneath for layering and it fits nice! not too tight at all! Sorry for the bad lighting but it was in my bedroom
I'm SO glad I didn't size up! I was very close of going with the XL but the sleeves would of been ridiculously long and I would of had to return it! Glad I didn't need to go through that
