I'm doing my first two triathlons this summer and a first marathon. The first tri is The Huntsman (Swim 1200m, Bike 33km, Run 10km) then later in the summer going back to the same venue in the New Forest for a longer race (Swim 1.9km, Bike 90km, Run 21km). If all goes well, I'll aim for an ironman next summer. What about you?

@Nkwkfld nice, that sounds great! I've been doing triathlon for about 8 years or so now, granted last year was a total wash. I've done many shorter distance tri's, amongst 20 or so Half Ironman races, and 3 Full ironmans. This year I have a Half Ironman in St George UT and a Full in Mont Tremblant Canada and another full in Sacramento CA. Not sure what races will happen in North America this year with all the Covid restrictions,

Loving this thread. Congrats @zhivago! Awesome to see you on here. I have been appreciating your posts since way back. I am researching bikes at the moment. We have some great trails here in Northern California. Thanks for the smile.

…..It's turning out to be an awesome bonding activity for my son and I too which is probably the best part of it all!
I can hear you @zhivago
We drove over 600 kilometer, to catch up this bike for my son. The MTB market is getting wild and crazy at the moment, on continental Europe?!

Looks like a great bike!!
My understanding is there is a global bike shortage currently. Mix of supply chain disruptions and demand by new consumers both fueled by the rona.

@browniemcghee thanks man, that is very kind of you to say!! I am grateful to have gotten into MTB now for sure but you are correct Northern CA is home to many great trails. Makes me a little sad I was only road riding during my time there, no regrets though, road is tons of fun as well!! My last few years there I was living in Sonoma and the road riding there is truly world class.

I grew up in Sonoma from 10-19 after Texas aged 0-9. Used to make deli sandwiches for Levi Leipheimer in Alexander Valley. Beautiful country to ride a bike for sure. Pine Flat! Legendary . I would love to hear updates on your rides from time to time.

Bought my Omnium mini-max in 2019 - hella pricy, but all my sailing and having to haul a ton of stuff to and fro the boats, it's a big relief having the front rack - and it's fast as hell for a cargo bike. Loving every second on it, though IH jeans have made it a bit more challenging.

Last autumn I sold my car, only kept my old VW bus for touring. Put all the money into this Böttcher bike (a local manufacturer): 'Dakkar' steel frame, Rohloff speedhub 500/14 (there you are, @Eisenherz ), Gates Carbon belt, Shimano Deore DISC T6000, SON dynamo hub, SON Edelux 2 and SON LED backlight, Cane Creek Thudbuster seat post, Racktime Addit carrier, Brooks B17
-
And you get that unique “ bike seat” fading

@endo
That is quite a masterpiece.
Well done. On my wishlist is the Tout Terrain with the same equippment, but it is all quite expensive.
14 gear Rohloff speed hub alone is € 1,000 ??? -
Amazing machine. Are you leaving this locked up?
-
Wow @endo !! How is the Carbon Drive? I used to live across the street from the site of the old Gates plant in Denver that was demolished in 2014. I think drives like this are probably the future.
-
@Nkwkfld always locked, secured in our backyard, and insured!
@mclaincausey The carbon drive is great, really smooth, no noise at all, perfect with the Rohloff speedhub.
-
@endo That is a lovely commuting bike, perfect spec.
Not quite the same but I am waiting on a new MTB frame with a Pinion drive and Gates belt. I have been a Nicolai fanboy for years now and the new bike is a Saturn 14 GPI trail frame. Looking forward to building it up later this month.
Getting the parts for the build was another story, massive parts availability problems at the moment, glad I had quite a bit of spare stuff in boxes that I have been able to use.
-
thanks, @ddtrash
I'm all but an expert on bikes, but the Pinion is supposed to be very fine as well. And the Gates belt is so wonderful! I'm just coming back from a tour through town, it's all so easy and joyful with a good bike.
Heard about the parts availability problems. Strange, but somehow also good if it reflex an increasing demand. Innercity transportation has to change. Here in Germany it is happening, very slow though.
