IH-888S-21 - 21oz Selvedge Denim Medium/High Rise Tapered Cut Jeans - Indigo

If it stretches one inch it will work for me. And if after I wash it and it shrinks back to original but then stretches back to the one inch limit after I wear it then I will buy the 34s.
This is what will happen. The 34’s are correct for you.
Thanks again for the help of the forum. I made the purchase and will post pics once I get them back from Self Edge's hemming service.

Hi all, I have another quick question. My current 888s that I have been wearing pretty exclusively for months have developed a rip/split on the inside edge of the back pocket. I thought this was pretty unusual since I don’t keep anything in the back pockets (I can’t take sitting on a wallet anymore). Has anyone else had this/seen this before and should I be concerned about it?

Doesn't really look like much of an issue to me based on those photo's. Based on the first pic it is possible that the constructional stitching has torn a strand of the warp, in which case that can be considered normal wear and tear. The second pic doesn't look unusual for an area where constructional stitching is coming together. It will disrupt and damage the weave by its nature. I can't imagine it will spread based on these pics. @Chesson might be able to shed some more light on it?
If you are concerned that it is a QC issue then you should contact the retailer directly.

Hi @Soleamp
I wouldn't be too concerned about this at the moment, I would keep an eye on it though. Short of running a through hand stitches in the areas that you've shown there is not much that we could suggest. Drop us an email if it gets worse, we may be able to offer a repair at a later date.

Thanks for the reply neph! The first pic was just to show the location of the "break". I suspect you are right, the split is right where the stitching is and it is a clean split (does not look like a tear). I'm sure the thickness of the denim doesn't help in these types of areas. I think the other pocket has this as well, it just is not as obvious as this one. I was more concerned if the area will get worse and/or if it needs to be repaired in order to prevent it from spreading.
As a side note, I picked up a pair of the 888S-RE for a good price that I am going to start working on as well!

Hi Chesson, thanks for the reply. I was just surprised to see this as I do not use the back pockets at all. I suspect that neph is probably right here because the split is right were the stitching comes through. I am hoping that this does not get worse as I have put a lot of time into this pair and they are only just starting to really develop some character, haha.

here's the fit pic, with and without a slight cuff. pretty happy with the way they look. they're a hair snug in the waist, but like everyone mentioned here, i believe they will stretch enough to be comfortable.

Looking for opinions on the fit of these 888S and any suggestions for my next pair? Stick with the 888s or is there anything that might fit even better? Only thing, I do prefer a higher rise. Cheers
-
They look fantastic, both in terms of fit and as a well worn pair of jeans.
You could definitely stick to the 888, trying the 25oz XHS or the 14oz variant, depending on your preference.
Other fits you may like would be the 1955 (a bit more traditional, but still a high rise and more of a taper from knee to hem), or go for the 555, for a more modern slim cut, while maintaining a medium to high rise.

neph93, sabergirl, Graham - Many thanks for advice and help it’s much appreciated. Looks like the 1955 is the only cut with a similar rise, so it’s either risk those or stick with 888, I’m leaning towards ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’. The 14oz sound interesting but I’ve never handled it, I’m guessing it behaves the same as the 21 just lighter in weight?

@Dentman Excellent fit!!!!
Here’s two early fit pics of mine, when I bought them at Statement store in Munich, and when I wore them the first time.
And a back pocket update pic at ~70 wear days:

I’m ruined for “lightweight” denim and don’t have anything lighter than 19oz at the moment. Never tried the current version of the 14oz. The word is that the weave is tighter and less stretchy than the 21oz. It is often claimed that the 21oz performs better than the 14oz in warm weather.

Excellent!
