Random Rants

Ah, German Customs…. my absolute pet hate. Good luck to whomever has to deal with them...

Over time I have "trained" most people I work with to e-mail me their questions. If you're going to ask me a stupid question you don't get to interrupt what I am doing at the same time.

The selling market in denim and workwear is generally much fairer than the streetwear and sneaker market, i’ve tried to buy a few things from recent Supreme drops for my boys birthday, it is literally insane.
the time i knew about supreme was right about 2008 or so. but i never liked that brand from the moment i knew it. maybe it's because i'm not a skater. but i was more into visvim than supreme..

almost 3 years in my first job in australia and i'm calling it quits in 2 weeks. it's a bloody shame i have to leave because i've progressed along from only doing PT while in uni to going full time and getting more responsibilities in the past year since i graduated.
i don't want to sound entitled but the circumstances have forced me no choice but to leave. sundays for me are for soccer and church. i've been on this tuesday to saturday work week since a year ago. right up till about 2 weeks ago, coming from our head office, telling us that we can't be on that anymore and it has to change to one weekend on and off.
there's only 2 of us that's on that roster because we put our hands up when it was asked if anybody wanted to do it a year ago. people bitched that they couldn't because they relied on sunday pay (penalty rate) a lot but they are also the same people that started bitching that it was unfair.
i've even offered not to have consecutive days off like most other staff or even move to a further location on a PT basis but yet have been told that all require sundays availability. i believe that most other places out there in the retail industry i've seen require 5 days availability not like the full 7 that we require. (FYI part timers get to choose their availability) even dropping down to PT in my own store now is not a possibility because we're over-contracted.
i hate leaving without another job in hand but i've got 2 weeks till my season starts. i know this sounds like i'm rather sour about the whole thing and probably sound like an entitled millennial. but i feel that with most companies focusing on a work life balance in this past few years, asking for a sunday off isn't too much especially when i'm not just demanding and i'm offering solutions around it.
the one thing i don't get is that, you've got plenty of uni students who are more than willing to work the weekends, not paying me the penalty rates to work on a sunday/monday is saving the company more as a whole, especially when most public holidays tend to fall on a monday. and yet they can't make an allowance or an exception for this.
i don't know if this is a rant or not but it's been frustrating me for the past couple weeks. the final straw was that finding out i can't even drop down my hours in my own store even when they said it could've been a possibility.

I’m sorry man. It sucks that they’re not willing to work with you, since you’re obviously a solid long-term employee. Retail, hospitality, restaurants, and bars are industries that will ALWAYS demand your availability on the weekends. The fact that you’ve gone this long having the same two days off in a row, including a Sunday, was definitely a special circumstance that you will be hard-pressed to find again. Good luck with the search!

the sundays off was given to me by my old manager as he didn't have any problems because most part timers are keen on working sundays. so he decided to make my RDOs sunday and monday and offered it to a couple more employees.
i understand that weekends are part of that whole industry but at the same time, that's where your part timers and casuals come into effect. especially now that i've started looking elsewhere, i've never seen any body advertise their job requirements as having a full 7 day availability. (for the retail market i mean) the F&B/ hospitality markets can be quite different. and on top of that perth's a really quiet city on sunday trade compared to friday and saturday.

I'm sorry to hear about your job woes @louisbosco, and I hope that you find something else soon.

cheers @Graeme

Why cant bloody ParcelForce/Customs just put a link or an amount next to the tracking info for duties to be paid. No… I have to wait for a letter to arrive to pay anything owing.

^ job security amigo. if they automated with a payment tab there is a letter opener out there in the ether who would lose his or her job. thats my hypothesis.

Time to pay the tax man today. My CPA isn't very good at his job ::)
-
^^ Made my tax payment today….. Let's just say it was the equivalent of a shit ton of Iron Heart. I wouldn't feel as bad about it if I knew it wasn't going to be squandered by the man.

Same. I thought I was going to even out for the year but my divorce and the claiming of my son had my CPA confused which was frustrating. I'd rather even out at the end of the year because I dislike the idea of giving Uncle Sam an interest free loan. But yes, I could buy a lot of IH with the money i'm paying

I'm right there with ya. After yesterday's foot+ of snow we are expecting about the same today, but of a mix of snow/ice/rain.
I'm just planning on power going out at some point today now…
