I will say I think the reason mine faded the way they did was starting with soaks in a tub when they were dirty (with detergent) and being super careful to keep the knees bent backwards so that the combs folds stayed in place during the soak. From there, I propped the hems up and made sure the combs folds stayed slightly folded while they were laid to dry on top of bath towels. From there, multiple machine washes and wearing 4-5 days a week to about 140 wears helped achieve a mixture of contrast and vintage fades, which is what I aim for with my jeans…hope that makes sense.

I took advantage of the fact that these were being sold in the outlet at a significant discount. I really love the fabric; it's just what I was looking for. The only issue is they're a little uncomfortable when seated, and they're still quite difficult to button up. You can see in the first photo the fly is not even buttoned. I've since been able to do up the fly. I anticipate the buttoning up will become easier as the fabric softens and buttons become more pliable, but I am worried about the waist. I feel like if I gained a couple pounds they would no longer fit.
I really want to keep them because I do love the fabric, and from my understanding, they are not going to be produced again. But at the same time, I want the jeans to last me a few years and I don't want to be uncomfortable when wearing them. Can anyone chime in with their experience breaking this denim in and what kind of stretch I can expect? I've heard they stretch 1 inch in the waist before soak/wash but then will shrink back down about an inch. Is this what most people have experienced?

I would always suggest that you grab a waist measurement that would fit right out of the box, they will shrink a little when you soak them, but you can always choose to keep the waist dry! They will shrink around a 0,5 / 1 inch. Waist will stretch back at pre-soak measurements and even something beyond. Can you comfortably sit? Do some squads etc? Easily acces your pockets? When those answers are yes then your good! 25oz and especially in a trim fit would be killing the first weeks, but after that period they start to soften up and someday they reach that sweatpants feeling!

I have a pair of 634s with the exact same measured waist and they fit just fine. I know the two jeans are vastly different fits but I'm focusing specifically on the waist measurement because that seems to be what's uncomfortable in the 555. So that sort of leads me to believe the discomfort is more from the fabric being so stiff.
I can squat in them and I can access my pockets, but when I sit it feels like the waistband is so rigid that it doesn't move with my body and digs into my gut a little. But when this happens I notice the fabric on the waistband at my lower back buckles. I.e. There's extra room in the waist, just the extra room is in the wrong spot and I'm hoping as the jeans soften up, that fabric will start to conform to my body better. -
Pre-wash pictures! Soaked the damn beast before putting it in the washing machine!

I will post some post pictures when they are dry
