Random Rants

@Licorice:
Drama in Danner land.
I guess my boots didn't fit into the "resole package" so they tried to charge me $150 for the "premier Package." I mentioned to the nice lady that having to put $150 into $340 boots six months after purchase was a little insane. After a few emails and a phone call from a higher up at Danner, they decided to warranty the boots. The problem with that is that the warranty doesn't cover repair, but only allows for replacement. I'm not really digging anything else they have to offer functionally or aesthetically. I guess I'm just gonna have to pay for the repairs anyway. What a mess.
why not just order a replacement pair and sell them to get a pair of boots that won't fall apart?

Update from earlier, in short order I am slightly screwed, but I kinda knew that. I have a prescribed route of treatment now though and a doc that I feel a bit comfy with.
Step 1:

Surgery, let's not discuss this. This is much more life altering than the above and I don't like the ramifications as described today. -

That was the original plan, but the Danners have actually been the most durable and comfortable boots that i've worn. My Aldens were absolute shit, Red Wings were tough, but not near as comfortable, Quoddys are really comfortable, but sacrifice durability. I think the Danners should last now that i'm replacing the Cristy sole with a sierra sole. I really liked the Patterson boot they did a while back and these should now have a similar look with the added durability of rough out over nubuck. I like military inspired clothing, so it just seemed like the best way to go stylistically and practically.

Nailed it. Completely useless for doing anything more taxing than walking in them (occasionally)…...When my second pair failed, I was advised by the vendor, that if I wanted to actually walk in my Indy's, I should consider another brand....

Weirdly, unlike most other areas of quality work wear that we're all into, price is no guarantee of quality in footwear. I have a pair of Dr Martens Valin oxfords that I have worn on and off for almost 4 years now and they are still pretty much in mint condition. They cost me £19.
The failings of Danner and Alden as described above are absolutely inexcusable though, especially considering their price point and target market.

You've really taken this Imelda alter ego to heart haven't you? :-\

the hell….imageshack now charges? looks like I need to find a new place to upload my pictures. Any suggestions? Does the forum have the capability to allow us to upload directly? I know I am on a sneaker forum that has quite a large following and we are able to upload directly from whatever source (i.e. phone, ipad, whatever) just thought that might be a cool option if it is possible, but really dont know the first thing about that stuff so just a side suggestion spawning from my rant about imagequack

I use http://imgur.com/ to upload pics for posting here.

I think perhaps it was you who started it…..(But, yes)......
It was actually Mclain…. I just jumped on the bandwagon.

When I was in investigations and we had new people that needed boots for inspecting food manufacturers, I always gave a simple answer they wouldn't believe: go to an Army/Navy surplus store and buy a pair of "jungle boots". $20, and I believe some of them are still using those boots six years later.
Food manufacturing plants is one of the craziest environments I can think of. They can be wet, dusty, hot, cold, slippery, and riddled with sharp objects on the floor, all in the same plant

I thought I may be the only one that felt that way about Alden. Can't believe the response they gave you, G. Maybe ill try to swing a pair of the rough out IH Vibergs this summer if the Danners dont end up working out. Im not ready to give up on them just yet.

Thought about White's? I have had good luck with my Alden's, but maybe I'll keep them for shorter walks to preserve them.

I've had good luck with my Indy's *** knock on wood ***. I don't like the way they feel on the MC so I only wear them on days I drive.

Well, Danner ended up doing alright. They rushed my boots through the shop and instead of a 6 week wait, it took 2 days. It looks like they even refunded my payment. On top of that, they're shipping them quick so I should have them for a hike this weekend. Hard to rant about that.

That's more like it. Great news LN
