How much did you have RCFG taper? Did you start tapering at the thigh or below the knee? Did it effect the selvage line? Do you have any fitpics? Still on the fence with tapering…

Have you looked at the selfedge 633? It is nearly the 634 but with a nice taper below the knee.

The measurements may make it seem that way, but the top block feels very different.

True story -
Thought about the 633s but would rather work with the 634s since I already have them. Plus I don't have the time to wear another pair of jeans so I can't justify spending so much on another pair at the moment.

I got them to 8.75 (.5inch) wish is cool they look good with boots or shoes left the knee and thigh ….I'II grab some picks in a day or too ...but they don't touch the selvage line they go from the inside of the pant leg and use the right thread (colour's too ) I was getting a repair on some loose stitching ..so I got a little taper down as well .. very pleased with the results

hi all,
looking at diving into the world of high quality denim but i dont want to mess it up and scare myself off it for life. my biggest requirement from a pair of jeans is freedom of movement because i basically live in a tent and the most expensive thing i own is a motorcycle. im always either crawling around on the ground or climbing up onto the bike. additionally, i have big thighs. my current pair of levis measure up like this:
waist: 36
Front rise: 11
Rear rise: 16.5
Thigh: 13.5
Knee: 9.5
Hem: 9
Inseam: 32which are perfect, except for the thighs which are almost skin tight which is a problem when squatting down. my question is, will the 634S end up as restrictive as my current jeans? or if i upsize to a 36, will the waist stay at 36 while the thighs stretch out a little, or will the whole thing stretch out reasonably uniformly?
-
Hmmm, 36 sounds about right, but the thighs are still 13.5 and usually the thighs won't stretch much. The waist will stretch if you apply pressure. They are sanforized, so won't shrink, when you wash them they will snug up a little and go back to where they were. Seems like sizing up to 38 would be too baggy.
Did you look at/consider the 1955S? The waist is 36 and thigh is 14.2, but they have more taper form the knee (slightly bigger knee and smaller leg opening) than the 634S. That might be a better cut for you with the bigger thigh.

Inquiring about [possible] shrinkage on the 634S and similar 21oz sanforized (but not overdyed) IH denims.
IHUK websites states little to no shrinkage; SE website states approximately 0.5" shrinkage on the inseam. I'm not concerned about the waist at all, only the inseam length.
If I buy these, and give them the hottest soak/wash possible, should I expect approximately 0.5" shrinkage on the inseam, or more, or less?
Ideally, I would get them pre-hemmed prior to delivery, since that is much more convenient for me. Therefore it is important to figure out as closely as possible the final length after the first soak/wash.

You will get no real shrinkage, there is simply no way you could give them a more brutal first wash than we already have. You will get some apparent shrinkage when the combs form. If you get them hemmed to the same length as a pair of jeans that you already own, you're good to go.

Thanks Giles. Much appreciated.
